In 2024, after more than 20 years of activity within the Beccaria IPM in Milan, Comunità Nuova Onlus became aware that the context of juvenile penal institutions no longer allowed for effective pedagogical action. For this reason, it has chosen to refocus its intervention in the juvenile justice sector, focusing on supporting external criminal execution paths and finding more effective educational solutions for young inmates.

In this context, the SmART 4.0 project focuses on the work of educators and a legal counselor, who are the core of the support and accompaniment paths for young people who are subject to criminal measures. The interventions are realized through the collaboration of a wide network of actors, under the lead and coordination of the Juvenile Social Service Office, with the active contribution of the Social Private Sector.

Objectives:

• Increase the ability to personalize the intake of detained youth, expanding and systemizing the possible paths of social inclusion
• Building a method of intervention in a coordinated manner among the different components and functions present in the multidisciplinary team and declined according to the type of beneficiaries involved

Beneficiaries: 20 intakes for legal counseling and 5 intakes for educational accompaniment.
