Causes of exclusion that can prevent a full integration for a person in the community (school dropout, criminal records, addictions, practical and legal problems) are overtaken by creating links.

Welcoming people, listening to their needs, suggesting solutions: sometimes to start over it’s necessary to face to urgencies that interfere with imaging a project for life.
THE PROJECTS
Minors, young people and families, Italian or immigrant, are the future we have to take care of. For this reason, we believe that it is important to understand their needs and suggest solutions.
In this area, you can find active projects that we are financing and others that needs to be realised. In both cases, it’s possible to support them in order to improve the effectiveness or to get them to start.

IN THE FOREGROUND
Area: juvenile penal system
Description: Provision of an accompanying salary of 600€/per month over a period of 4 months through a cash card, provided by Banca Intesa, registered to the boys who are coming out of the IPM Beccaria. It’s necessary to have an individualised pathway for job search, education and school attendance.
Beneficiaries: the boys, usually over 18 but even, just for specific situations, minors, who are coming out from prison, indicated by the social services for minors and from the educators of the IPM “Beccaria”.
Area: Social inclusion
Description: Thanks to the Pension Fund of Cariplo Foundation two apartments located in Milan are made available at the lowest rent (600 euros per month including administrative expenses). The apartments are assigned to young couples, with a penal background, that are supported and to a housing autonomy.
The Don Gino Rigoldi Foundation will sign an educational pact for joint responsibility and a loan contract. The work of and educator of Don Gino Rigoldi Foundation will ensure weekly visits in order to check the respect of the pact, that is designed accordingly to each couple needs.
Beneficiaries: Young couples, that are at the last stadium of a penal proceeding. For these beneficiaries it is very difficult to get a rent contract for various reasons: very short work experiences, lack of tax and income declarations, difficulties in finding the resources for the payment of the deposit and the three-monthly rents. All these constraints and difficulties impede to carry out a regular life and to strength the couple relation that very often are already parents.
Area: Youth/Training/Work
Description: Creation of pathways for professional training and employment in the labor market of young adults that live in marginalized conditions. The general objective of the project is to contribute to pursuit the employment of people that face barriers to job placement, that live in disadvantaged economic and social conditions and that are at risk of marginalization. On the one hand the project intervenes for the amelioration of their professional competences and skills and on the other hand for the development of the necessary skills for job search.
Beneficiaries: People that live in the suburban areas of the town and are at risk of social and economic exclusion. In particular target group of the project are the so-called NEET (young people that are unemployed and at the same time are not engaged in an instruction or training program), refugees and asylum seekers, people with mental distress, ex-offender, adults with penal procedures and prison background and people with previous addiction experiences. In the Lombardy Region, in 2015 the unemployment of the young population is around 31% and the NEET are around 19%

Description: it consists in a project of temporary housing support for people that live in disadvantaged conditions. At the moment, 15 apartments, mostly one-room and two-room apartments, are available and are located in the neighbourhoods of Giambellino and San Siro in the town of Milan.
Each persons and families involved in the project sign a contract of hospitality that guarantees the residency permit, the access to health services and the access to the local social services.
All the guests receive a follow up by Comunità Nuova educators with the aim of improving their personal and social conditions and defining the period of use of the houses (usually not higher than two years).
Beneficiaries: the guests are people at risk of marginalization or with few personal resources such as former alcoholics and former drug addict, single women with children, migrants that faces difficulties in finding a house, families that face strong socio-economic difficulties, former offenders and young people that do not gain enough resources and need a support for gaining independence. At the moment the beneficiaries are 15 families for a total of 38 guests (24 adults and 14 minors).
Area: youth participation
Description: the CAG, youth centre, is open to the quarter 5 days a week. Activities are addressed to young people and to their families and planned with boys and girls according to their needs.
The team works on some cross-cutting themes in different activities and groups: relationship, as a resource and a focus, is in the middle of the operators’ daily work. The Centre encourage inclusion, aggregation and works with young people to develop skills and help them growing up, knowing how to face mistakes and have more self-confidence. Working areas:

Beneficiaries: 130 boys and girls between 11 and 21 years old
Area: Training and work
Description: the bicycle workshop Ciclo L’HUB acts on three different levels:
- To propose de professional training to girls and boys that for several reasons are out of training and educational paths providing basic technical skills necessary to work as bicycle. The project also foresees some training on basic skills. Two students are selected to start a payed internship of 3 or 6 months to continue their training on the job;
- To recycle old bicycles, to fix up bicycle for a longer use, to sell spare parts for improving road safety;
- To encourage sustainable mobility, promoting the use of bicycles as daily mean of transport with a city that aim at becoming smarter.
Beneficiaries: Girls and boys aged between 17 and 25 years that do not study and do not work; the beneficiaries are followed by local social services (juvenile criminal, services for addicted persons, youth aggregation services, services for mental health, etc..).
Area: Housing

The treatments are focused on the single person, with the aim of giving people their citizenship back.
The day care centre gives people, through activities, groups and meetings, the chance to do “other experiences” that give back interpersonal and social skills and abilities, that reactivate life skills, that allow to try new and different behavioural and cognitive patterns.
Beneficiaries: 16 people addicted to drugs, legal or illegal, who come from different backgrounds in Milan.
Area: support for self-reliance
Description: it’s a service founded to develop an aid network for people in state of social vulnerability, who in the last years found themselves to face hard situations of economic, work and familiar crisis.
In the Social Secretariat located in Bellini street in Milan are granted provision of:
- Distribution of essential goods (food, clothes, blankets, personal care products);
- Orientation to understand the better way to pay in instalments unsolved costs, to request for temporary apartments with low rent, or for low cost housing;
- Legal advice for the green card of for the family reunification;
- Support for the parenthood.
Beneficiaries: 350 families, people in state of social vulnerability who in the last years found themselves to face hard situations of economic, work and familiar crisis.
Area: Family and childhood
Description: two solidarity acts:
- School support
A school support is given to increase the positive integration of Italian and foreign minors in the social and cultural reality of the quarter and the city, to avoid early school-leaving by supporting their own resources and by activating mediatory action between minors, families and the school.
- Summer Camp
The summer camp opens five days a week in July. It offers not only help with the summer school homework, but also crafts, time to play, trip at the pool or museum, or tours to discover the city. The Summer Camp, aimed at the promotion of the relationship of equals, develops learning tools for language, knowledge about different cultures and overcoming “mistrust”.
Beneficiaries: 100 minors from 6 to 16 years old, of which 60 for the school support and 40 for the summer camp.
Area: addictions

Description: the interventions in the area of juvenile penal aim at supporting the end of formal penal proceedings of minors and adults, supporting the persons in the process of re-elaboration of their situation and experience.
The projects of this area are developed in different institutional services and structures such as the Juvenil Detention Centre Cesare Beccaria, the social services for minors and the external office of penal proceedings.
Our social workers carry out the following activities:
- To build a work alliance and a trustful relationship with minors;
- To understand together with the minor, the reasons of his/her behaviours and crime;
- To increase the empowerment of minors (increasing of awareness, recognition of their personal resources and capacities);
- To create and strength networks and good practices.
Beneficiaries: minors, young adults and adults taken into charge by the Justice system and services. Around 100 persons are involved in the project.
Area: Social Inclusion
Description: Integrated solutions for training, job placement and educational follow up to encourage the entrance in the work market of people in disadvantaged conditions.
The social workers take into charge young people that spontaneously access to this service or are involved through local services and Comunità Nuova structures. After a first interview a path that foresees different services is designed according to the person skills and needs. The beneficiary’s data are inserted in a database and are matched with work vacancies and/or training opportunities.
The project foresees the following actions:
- Local presence that allows to engage young people in places of informal aggregation and socialization;
- Help desk where the services related to the educational support of young people are provided: initial interview, selection of the candidates for the training courses, skills’ assessment, creation and revision of CVs, simulation of job interviews, general approach to work labour and work contracts, creation of a path of job search;
- Professional training based on two fundamental actions: on the one hand the professional training (training with trainers/craftsmen that transfer to the beneficiaries their technical competences), on the other hand the professional training with the aim of learning to stay in a job place;
- Payed internships, that give the possibility of carrying out trainings on the job and sustain the companies’ costs for the placement of the beneficiaries;
- Social tutoring, an educator acts like tutor and give follow up to the beneficiaries during the work experience.
Beneficiaries: young people that live in disadvantaged conditions. Most of the beneficiaries live in the Barona area where the structures of Comunità Nuova are located.
Area: young people, childhood, family
Description: the project supports initiatives that prevent the child abandonment and that give educational and material support to children and families living in vulnerable and discriminatory conditions in some areas of Romania and Republic of Moldova. Thanks to capacity building and economic support action, the project helps the development and the opening of initiatives in the areas of Ramnicu Valcea (“Case del Sorriso”), Mehedinti (child abandonment prevention), Bucarest (child abandonment and early school-leaving prevention) and Orhei (educational support and community development).
Beneficiaries: 25 minors and young people in the “Case del Sorriso” (“Smile Houses”) in Ramnicu Valcea; 120 families in Mehedinti area; 20 children on the Obor Community Centre in Bucarest; 200 children and young people involved in the educational activities of the project named “il Vagone” (“the Coach”) in Orhei.
Area: Juvenile Criminal

- Payed internships, that give the possibility of carrying out trainings on the job and sustain the companies’ costs for the placement of the beneficiaries;
- Social tutoring, an educator acts like tutor and give follow up to the beneficiaries during the work experience.
Beneficiaries: young people that live in disadvantaged conditions. Most of the beneficiaries live in the Barona area where the structures of Comunità Nuova are located.

Description: the project supports initiatives that prevent the child abandonment and that give educational and material support to children and families living in vulnerable and discriminatory conditions in some areas of Romania and Republic of Moldova. Thanks to capacity building and economic support action, the project helps the development and the opening of initiatives in the areas of Ramnicu Valcea (“Case del Sorriso”), Mehedinti (child abandonment prevention), Bucarest (child abandonment and early school-leaving prevention) and Orhei (educational support and community development).
Beneficiaries: 25 minors and young people in the “Case del Sorriso” (“Smile Houses”) in Ramnicu Valcea; 120 families in Mehedinti area; 20 children on the Obor Community Centre in Bucarest; 200 children and young people involved in the educational activities of the project named “il Vagone” (“the Coach”) in Orhei.
Area: young people, childhood and family
Description: the project encourages teenagers, young people and their families’ participation to the social and political life of the areas we live in, in the interest of leading role played and taking responsibility for vulnerable, unequal and discriminating situations. The project starts form the Milano metropolitan area and other places in Lombardy, but it also promotes activities and initiatives on a global scale, promoting an international solidarity principle and Global Citizenship. In accordance with these values, the project realises awareness, training and non-formal education initiatives, local and international volunteering.
Beneficiaries: 1500 teenagers attending workshop in Lombardy; 200 young people involved in voluntary activities in Italy, Romania and Republic of Moldova; 900 children and young people met in the summer camps in Romania and in Republic of Moldova; 100 children and young people beneficiaries of animation activities in Italy; 24 young Romani and Sinti supported in their studies; 6 young people involved in international long-term voluntary activities.
Area: Training and work
Description: the project Neighbourhoods’ small shops is based on professionalisation and entrepreneurship as real instruments for overcoming a situation of unemployment of a group of young people that live in Milan.
They will be places where a group of young people will carry out its activity with the support of a team of craftsmen that will act as tutors; specifically, they will work:
- In the services of house maintenance: construction industry (bricklayer, house painter, decorator), systems industry (plumber and electrician), wood restauration;
- In the services of people care addressed to the neighbour’s inhabitants (take to shopping, completion of administrative activities, support in technological devices’ use; baby-sitting);
- In the services for the companies (companies’ logistician that offers to the employers a series of services that allow them to conciliate the needs of private live with the needs of working live, carrying out a series activity that the employer would carry out with a detriment of his/her work).
The small shop will be a physical place that will be a “window” for being known by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood and at the same time it will be a small workshop where our young beneficiaries could collect the needs of the clients and carry out small interventions and works.
Beneficiaries: the so-called NEET, namely young people that are excluded from training programs and labour life.
